Now We Know Why America Is Fat

Last year at this time, I was reading articles about new fair foods which were totally blowing my mind: deep-fried pickles, deep-fried bacon, deep fried snickers….and then to top the list, deep friend peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on a stick! But this year, it has definitely gone a little far. The newest addition to our deep fried collection:

Deep-fried butter.

I am not joking. Let me say that again. ..Deep-fried butter. Actually, I didn’t have to say that again; my arteries yelled that out as they were slowly closing up even at the thought of consuming this new “treat”! This new concoction will be revealed at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas later this month. Deep Frying has become a friendly competition at the Dallas fair and this year’s fried butter entry came from Abel Gonzales Jr who was also the winner of past state fair competitions with Texas Fried Cookie Dough, Fried Peanut Butter, Jelly and Banana Sandwich and Fried Coke recipes. (Check out the video below to find out how Gonzales makes his deep fried butter!)

Other deep-fried creations to be showcased at this year’s state fair include:

• Green Goblins: Cherry peppers stuffed with spicy shredded chicken and guacamole, battered, deep-fried and topped with queso.
• Twisted Yam on a Stick: A spiral-cut sweet potato, fried on a skewer, then rolled in butter and dusted with cinnamon and sugar.
• Fernie’s Deep Fried Peaches & Cream: Served with a side of vanilla buttercream icing for dipping.
• Texas Fried Pecan Pie: A mini-pecan pie battered, deep fried and served with caramel sauce, whipping cream and chopped candied pecans.
• Country Fried Pork Chips: Battered, thin-sliced pork loin deep fried and served with sides of ketchup or cream gravy.
• Sweet Jalapeno Corn Dog Shrimp: Shrimp on a stick, coated with a sweet and spicy cornmeal batter, deep fried and served with a spicy glaze.
• Fried Peanut Butter Cup Macaroon: A peanut butter cup wrapped inside a coconut macaroon, fried and then dusted with powdered sugar.
